  • May 2021Dr. Nicole Coggins and Professor Luis Carvajal-Carmona were awarded the 2021 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research Recipients.
  • June 2020 – Dr. Nicole Coggins is selected as a Minority Scholar in Cancer Research to present her work at the AACR Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually this year. More information can be found here.
  • Spring 2020 – Alma Poceros-Coba is Ph.D. student at Integrative Genetics and Genomics program. She joined our Lab on Spring quarter 2020. Alma awarded a UC Mexus CONACYT doctoral fellowship to conduct her studies at UC Davis.

  • June 2018 – Luis is appointed as the Co-Chair of the Minority Scholar Awards Committee at the AACR.
  • April 2018 – Luis is elected to serve at the AACR Minorities in Cancer Research Council (MICR). He will serve at this Council for three years. More information can be found here.
  • April 2018 – Luis is invited to be an expert witness for a whole geome sequencing bill at the California State Capitol. The initiative led by the bi-partisan rare disease caucus was included in the State budget for FY 18-19 and will provide funding for whole genome sequencing in Medi-Cal patients with rare disease.   • December 2016 – The Carvajal-Carmona lab is proud to announce that Mabel Bohorquez received her Ph.D. in Colombia, earning the Laureate Thesis Award. Mabel is Luis’s third Ph.D. student. Congrats Mabel!
